Manchester offers many ways to get around the city centre and to travel further afield. The city hosts Manchester Airport, two main train stations, as well as excellent bus and tram services.
Manchester Airport is situated in the area of Ringway, south west of Manchester City Centre and is also one of the busiest airports in the country. The airline services travel to many destinations within the United Kingdom and further afield, such as North America, Africa, the Caribbean, Middle East, Asia and Europe. As well as this, the airport is one of only seventeen airports in the world to operate the Airbus A380. Manchester Airport is easily accessible to passengers via Manchester Airport Railway Station which connects to airport terminals 1 and 2 by a Skylink moving walkway. Manchester Airport Railway Station is linked to Manchester Piccadilly Railway Station, as well as many more railway stations situated throughout northern England and Scotland. Manchester Airport is a twenty minute drive from Manchester City Centre and the airport offers both short stay and long stay car parking facilities nearby to the airport terminals. The airport is also served by many bus and coach services.
Both Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria Railway Stations are situated in the heart of Manchester. Manchester Piccadilly Station operates rail services to many destinations throughout England as well as Scotland and South Wales. Manchester Victoria Station lies adjacent to the Manchester Evening News Arena and serves destinations mainly to the North and East of the city. As well as this, within the city centre there are over a dozen rail based park and ride sites.
Manchester has a modern light rail tram system the Manchester Metrolink. The 23 mile network includes three lines with 37 stations around the city and crossing the city centre. Currently there are plans to expand the tram lines and once completed Manchester will have the largest tram system within the United Kingdom.
Manchester has one of the largest bus networks in the country and hosts over fifty bus companies operating within the Greater Manchester region. Manchester Piccadilly Bus Station is located nearby to Piccadilly Train Station in the city centre and offers services travelling into Manchester City Centre and around the city.
There are a large number of short stay and long stay car parking facilities in and around Manchester and the city centre. As well as this, Manchester City Council also offers many dedicated parking bays throughout Manchester, including its multi-storey car parks for disabled drivers.
